Cleaning Your Tires

Cleaning Your Tires

Tires collect more grime than any other part of your vehicle. Anything and everything on the road surface contacts your tires. It’s just as important to overall longevity and condition to clean your tires like you do your car. Cleaning prevents brake dust and other corrosive elements from potentially damaging the tire. Follow the easy steps below and learn how to keep your tires looking and performing great!

Choose a couple dedicated rags or towels for your tires and wheels. Pick some you don’t mind getting dirty as brake dust can permanently stain fabric. Avoid using them elsewhere on your car because the residue can scratch paint.

You can use regular car wash soap or tire specific cleaner but stay away from products with formaldehyde and petroleum based products as they wear down rubber over time. The easiest way to avoid harmful products is to choose a water-based cleaner.

Spray the tires with water before applying an approved tire cleaning solution. Let the cleaning solution sit on the tire surface to help break up dirt and grime.

After letting the cleaner sit, scrub the tire surface. Use a soft to medium brush, so if you do contact the wheel you won’t scratch the finish.

Thoroughly rinse the tire and wheel to remove all cleaning products. Do not forget to rinse the brush as well. Use the rags to dry the tire and wheel. Once your tires are dry, apply tire shine if you’d like.
