We hope your vehicle never breaks down, but if it does, here are some tips to stay safe!
1.) DON'T PANIC!
If something goes wrong while you're driving, especially at high speeds, this is the number 1 rule!
2.) Communicate
Use your hazards and/or open your hood. This is paramount to your safety! When you realize something is wrong, or when you've made it off the roadway, it's important to communicate with other drivers that you're vehicle is behaving unpredicatably or has stopped.
3.) No Sudden Movements
Safely ease your vehicle to the side of the road using controlled steering and throttle/brake imputs. Don't slam on the brakes or suddenly turn the steering wheel. This could cause your vehicle to act unexpectedly and cause more damage if something fails.
4.) Get to a Safe Spot
Pull off the road or stop in the safest place you can. If you're on a freeway, pull off on the right shoulder if possible. Your personal safety is most important, which sometimes means staying in your vehicle, especially if there isn't a safe place to go. This is especially important on highways.
5.) Location
Location, location, location! Do your best to narrow down your specific location when calling for help. Knowing where you are will help whomever you've called to find you.
6.) Who you Going to Call?
If there's been an accident or you've been hurt, call 911! If you've broken down and there isn't any threat to yourself or others, it's not necessary to use 911, but recommended to call the local police dispatch, especially if you've been involved in an accident.
